Everybody
is joyously happy … they surround the Prince and Marie … and
the Snowflake Fairies return with their beautiful dance…(fig.1
Dance of Snowflakes; 1st act)
As
a gift and tribute to Marie for saving their lives, all the
toys want to do something to show their gratitude, so each
group of dolls presents her with a special dance. First, the
Spanish dolls perform a fiery Spanish dance …
(fig.2, 3 I. Lazareva and A. Lazarev as Spanish dolls; 2nd
act)
And
the exotic Indian dolls, in their elaborate costumes, suddenly
perform a very unfamiliar acrobatic dance which only the most
skilled dancers can accomplish. (fig.4 M.Zubkova
and A. Valuer as Indian dolls; 2nd act )
But
one of the most spectacular dances is that of the Chinese
dolls. These are the favorite dolls of the world and everybody
recognizes them immediately. How high they jump! (fig.5
E. Zernov as a Chinese doll; 2nd act)
And
how lovely are the shepherd and shepherdess, with their sheep.
Their dance is so lovely … slow … and peaceful. It is called
a “pastorale”. The dancers have great skill for they must
do as much acting as dancing. Everybody watches their beautiful
dancing very closely. (fig.6
O. Shezhitskaja and V.Ustinov as shepherds; 2nd act)
