"The Snow-maiden" made its debut at the Mariinsky Theatre on January 29 (February 10) 1882 with E. Napravnick as conductor.

In Moscow “The Snow-maiden” appeared for the first time in 1885 at Mamontov's Private Opera Theatre with the fairy setting designed by V. Vasnetsov. The composer gave his preferences to the Bolishoi Theatre staging, first seen on January 26, 1893 with I. Altany as conductor of the staging, A. Bartsal as its producer and C. Valts, I. Savitsky and I. Smirnov as desginers of the opera.

The main parties: ̀. Eikhenvald (Snow-maiden), A. Krutikova (Spring), M. Deisha-Seonitskaya (Kupava), B. Korsov (Mizgir), L. Zvagina (Lel), A. Bartsal (Berendey).

Since then “The Snow-maiden ” has survived 6 stagings at the Bolishoi Theatre:
