Ålena Zelenskaya (soprano), People’s Artist of Russia

Ålena Zelenskaya is one of the leading sopranos with the Bolshoi Theatre Company. She is a People’s Artist of Russia. She won 2-nd premium at the M. I. Glinka Competition of Vocalists and 1-st premium at the International N. Rimsky-Korsakov Competition. From 1991 to 1996 she was soloist with the Moscow theatre " Novaya Opera ", where she appeared as Queen Elizabeth ("Ìària Stuart " by V. Donizetty) and Valli (in Càtalani’s opera "Valli"), with both operas being staged for the first time in Russia. In 1993 she performed the part of Gorislava (" Ruslan and Ludmila ") at the Lincoln-Centre and Carnegie-Hall in New York and that of Queen Elizabeth ("Ìària Stuart") in Les Champs Eliseå in Paris. From 1992 to 1995 she took part on a regular basis in " Mozart at Schonbrunn" Vienna Music Festival, where she appeared as Donna Elvira (" Don Juan") and Countess ("Le Nozze di Figaro ").

In 1996 Ålena Zelenskaya joined the Bolshoi Theatre Opera Company as soloist and since then she has participated in the following productions singing the leading soprano parts: Tatiana ("Eugene Onegin"), Yaroslavna ("Prince Igor"), Liza ("The Queen of Spades"), Natalia (“ The Opritchnick "), Natashà ("Rusalka"), Êupava ("Snow Maiden"), Tosca ("Tosca"), Àida ("Àida"), Àmelia ("Un Ballo in Maschera"), Countess ("Le Nozze di Figaro"), Leonora ("La Forza del Destino"), soprano part in Requiem by G. Verdi.

After her successful debut in the role of Lady Ìàcbeth ("Ìàcbeth", by G. Verdi) in Switzerland, the singer appeared as guest singer in the International Saavonliine Opera Festival (Finland) singing Leonora in "La Forza del Destino" and the title role in " Àida " and from 1998 to 2001 she took part in the festival on a regular basis.

In 1998 she sang the role of Stephana in U. Giordano’s " Siberia" at the International Wexford Festival (Ireland). In 1999-2000 at the International Bergen Festival (Norway) she appeared as Tosca ("Tosca"), Lady Ìàcbeth ("Ìàcbeth"), Santuzza ("Cavalleria Rusticana"), and as Ànna in an opera by G. Puccini "Le Vilie". In 1999 as guest singer she sang Aida in Deuche Opera on the Rein (Dusseldorf) and in Deuche Opera in Berlin in October and December correspondingly. Early in 2000 she sang the part of Lady Ìàcbeth ("Macbeth") in the Minnesota Opera in the USA, and then that of Leonora ("La Forza del Destino") for the Danish Royal Opera. In September 2000 she participated in "Tosca" (as Tosca) in the Royal Opera La Monet in Brussels, " The Requiem of War " by C. Britten in the Los Angeles Philharmony ( conductor À. Papano). Late in 2000 she sang in Òål Àviv in the New-Israel Opera production of “Ìàcbeth” (Lady Ìàcbeth).

In 2001 her debut with the Mertropoliten Opera (USA) in "Un Ballo in Maschera" as Àìelia (conductor P. Domingo) and in “Àida” as Àida, was followed by the one with San Diego Opera (USA) in “Requiem" by G. Verdi. The same year she sang in Germany in the Opera Mannheim production of "Un Ballo in Maschera" where she played the part of Àmelia, then the title role in "Ìàddalenà" by S. S. Prokofiev in the Amsterdam Philharmony, at the International Opera Festival in Cåasarea (Israel) she appeared as Leonora in" La Forza del Destino". In October that year she appeared as Ìimi ("La Boheme") in the Grand Opera Liceo (Barcelona). In 2002 she sang the role of Àmelia ("Un Ballo in Maschera") at the Riga Opera Festival and then that of Ìaddalena in “Andre Chenier” (by U. Giordano) for the New Israel Opera .
